May 25 – 28: Memorial Day Weekend Ride – Palmyra, VA. 2 CTC’s in one weekend. You could win a trailer just for riding. No strings – just fun! Take advantage of the holiday weekend and enjoy 4 days of riding. You’ll ride on well marked, self-guided trails each day. Each day of riding offers 6-7 miles of trail riding. Rolling terrain-wooded trails, fields, streams and scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, all on private land! Located just outside of beautiful Charlottesville in Palmyra, VA (1 hour northwest of Richmond). Motels nearby. $1,500 in cash and prizes at each CTC. Friday: Pleasure ride, dinner, obstacle workshop, knowledge presentations. Saturday: Scavenger hunt SCTHA CTC or Pleasure Ride, lunch, dinner, obstacle competition & games. Sunday: ACTHA CTC or Pleasure Ride, lunch, mini clinics, dinner, movie. Monday: Pleasure Ride. Limited to 100 riders. May 27: USTR Memorial Day Benefit Ride – Middleburg, VA. United States Trail Ride, Inc. (USTR) is pleased to announce the date for our annual Memorial Day Benefit Ride to be held at Glenwood Park, Middleburg, VA on Sunday, May 27th, 2012. The Memorial Day Benefit ride is USTR’s largest fund raising event annually.  2012 marks the 18th running of this popular ride. Over the past 10 years alone, USTR has raised and donated over twenty five thousand dollars to local non-profit organizations. This year’s ride will benefit Loudoun Therapeutic Riding Foundation, The Gingersnap Girls Equine Education and Rescue Foundation, and The Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship. Join us on a terrific ride over the wonderfully scenic and private trails rarely open for public riding. Ride 6 to 15 miles at your own pace on well marked trails that range from gently rolling mixed fields/woods to more aggressive hills and river crossings. Ride the trail(s) right for you – there is something for everybody! June 2: Bobwhite Club 4th Annual Trail Ride – Brookneal, VA at 690 Red Bottom Road (Hat Creek). Riders out between 10 AM – 12 noon. Registration will start at 9 AM. Current negative Coggins with signed release form. There is a minimum of $15 donation for the ladies club. Children must be with an adult on trail ride. June 8 – 10: Old Store Hunt Club Spring Trail Ride – Located 5 minutes from Eaton’s Ferry Bridge at Lake Gaston. $25 per rider if pre-registered; $35 per rider if registering day of the event; $15 kids 14 and under. Gates open Friday afternoon. Lunch available on trail for donation. Dinner provided Saturday night. DJ and Dance Saturday night. Sunday riding available in the pasture areas. June 9: Stonewall Hounds Poker Run – Appomattox, VA. Will be held at Linden Hill Farm, Rt 627. First rider out at 9 AM, last rider out at 11 AM. Rain date: June 10th. Cost $35, lunch included. Ride the trails over a marked course (5-7 miles), picking up a card at the checkpoints. At the finish line we’ll record your poker hand. The winning hand gets 10% of the entry fees. June 11 – 12: Julie Winkel Clinic – Quinton, VA. Julie Winkel is an R USEF judge, as well as a CEF judge. She has held a license since 1984, and judged all the most prestigious shows in the country, including Devon, Harrisburg, Washington International, The National Horse Show, Capital Challenge, The Hampton Classic, Upperville, Wellington, Pony Finals and Hunter Breeding Finals. She has designed courses and judged the New England Equitation Finals, the ASPCA Maclay Finals, as well as the USEF Medal Finals (2010 with George Morris). She has trained and shown hunters and jumpers to the top level, nationally and internationally. She has many Grand Prix wins as well as hunter championships throughout her career. Julie Winkel is on the Board of Directors and the planning committee for USHJA, serves as co-chair of the officials committee, sits on the Emerging Athletes Committee, Equitation Committee, Trainer Certification Program Committee, Zone 10 Jumper Committee, and the trainer symposium committee. She is the chairman of the USEF Continuing Education Committee, sits on the Licensed Officials Committee, the National Hunter Committee and the Young Horse Task Force. June 16 – 17: JEB Stuart Trail Ride – New Kent, VA. Sponsored by Virginia  Quarter Horse Association and Virginia Horse Council. We will be camping close to the trail JEB Stuart used and will cross some of the same areas he rode through.  The ride will start at the New Kent Visitors Center,  pass by the New Kent Winery on the way to Marengo Plantation on the Pamunkey River.   You will ride around the Plantation and return back to you base camp following a new route. After your ride the afternoon can be spent at the festivities at the New Kent Winery. At the winery you will be able to check out a Civil War encampment both Union and Confederate.  A complete Union Field Hospital will be set up.  An artillery demonstration will take place.  A traditional dinner will be served and afterwards period music with dance instructions.   Included in your entry fee will be wine tasting from 4 local wineries including New Kent Winery, Williamsburg Winery, Saude Creek, and James River Cellars.  For the youth special activities and games will be held. This ride will benefit a program to mark JEB Stuart’s Ride through Virginia. The ride will be approximately 15 miles.  The route will encounter many paved roads and shoes are required.  The ride will be escorted on the paved roads by New Kent Sheriffs, so all riders will need to leave and stay together. There will be a short ride on Sunday morning after breakfast. Ride is limited to 100 riders. Water is limited, you will need to bring to your own water.

June 22 – 24: Stock Horse Competition/Clinics and Sale – Greenville, VA. 3 Day Stock Horse Event and Sale 3rd weekend in June in Greenville, Va. Planned events included sorting, ranch cutting, possibly mounted shooting, and a small clinic or two. PLUS, a SALE of selected horses ready to perform. If you like to compete, you won’t want to miss this. If you want to learn about western stock horse events, this is the place. And if you want to buy or sell, this is the event of the year for you!     I’m very much interested in a calendar of scheduled events. In reading your calendar I find the dates are March & April of 2011, and from May to Dec. is for the 2010 year. Is this correct? If so is there another website for a Virginia calendar of events or will this site be updated soon?
